Try self-hypnosis for yourself... right now!
You enter a state of natural hypnosis every day. When you lose yourself in a good book; when you get engrossed in a film; when you lose track of time whilst out on a walk - these are all natural states of hypnosis.
- Make sure it's safe for you to try this. Obviously, you won't be trying this out while you're driving or operating machinery. If you are asthmatic it might be a good idea to have your inhaler at the ready, just in case. If you are epileptic it is a good idea to seek your doctor's advice first.
- Take a few minutes just to sit still and quiet. Don't worry if you find this difficult. Some people find it naturally more easy than others. It takes practise.
- You may like to close your eyes (but make sure you know what you're doing first)!
- Start by focusing on your breathing, simply becoming more aware of the gentle rise and fall as you breathe in and out. You may like to take a few deep breaths at this point.
- Now, I wonder if you can get the sense of a place in time that was really happy for you? You may be able to recall the things you could see, hear, smell... Imagine that you're back there, right now. Make it as real as you can. Keep focusing on all of your senses and the emotions you felt.
- Stay like this for as long as you are comfortable to do so. And then gently bring yourself back to the 'here and now' by having a stretch and slowly opening your eyes.

Imagination and emotion hold the key.
I hope you enjoyed that!
Our worries, thoughts, hopes and dreams all take place in our imagination.
The type of emotion we connect to these things will lead us to view them as positive or negative.
The more we focus our energies in more positive directions (all the things we can do instead of all the things we can't do) the better we might feel.
To make any sort of change (having more confidence, decreasing pain, stopping habits such as smoking, or banishing a phobia) the process has to start with emotions and imagination. If you don't feel it or imagine it first, chances are things won't change. Hypnotherapy and mindfulness can help with this whole process.
As a hypnotherapist, I can help to facilitate change only when it is desired. If you have a real motivation to do something then hypnosis will probably prove to be a good option for you.
However, I cannot make you do anything you do not want to do. So, to be honest, if you really don't want to make changes you'd probably be better off spending your money on other things!
