seeing me! Driving test anxiety Everyone ‘suffers’ from some sort of anxiety at some points in their lives – whether it be linked to social situations, public speaking, work or finances. One situation where those nerves can seem to take over and potentially ruin everything is when you’re facing your driving test. |
We know it’s irrational but there’s some part of your brain that just seems to want to sabotage this crucial event. The strange thing is, it’s that part of your brain that wants what’s best for you too. If you hadn’t got a certain amount of adrenalin running through your body you perhaps wouldn’t perform as well as you potentially could. The secret is in getting the balance just right. You need to be fired up in order to perform well but you don’t want to become a dithering wreck!
This is where hypnotherapy could possibly help.
Hypnosis works in a very gentle, yet empowering, way, working with your imagination and the bodily sensations you experience when experiencing anxiety. Often, any sort of anxiety is caused when we project our thoughts into the future seeing a negative result – literally experiencing it as if it were real. Hypnosis helps by focusing on a variety of different aspects such as your breathing, self-concept and emotions. |
A number of different techniques may be employed to help you overcome any specific fears and anxieties surrounding the test itself or any particular part of driving you might find stressful, for example, encountering roundabouts, motorway driving, or driving through town. These include relaxation, visualisation, ‘anchoring’ good feelings, projecting your thoughts into the future and seeing a positive result, and being mindful of how your thoughts processes might be working.
