Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D, is Professor of Medicine Emeritus and creator of the Stress Reduction Clinic and the Centre for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, USA. He is quoted widely and describes Mindfulness succinctly as "paying attention to the present moment, in a particular way, without judgement.” Mindfulness, therefore, is simply being more aware of living in the present moment with an open and friendly awareness of what is happening in and around you, without getting carried away by the pressures of everyday life. |

Together with colleagues at Oxford University, Professor Mark Williams developed an approach to mindfulness which also incorporates cognitive therapy. This form of mindfulness is recommended by the UK's National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) specifically for the treatment of depression relapse. |
