Really enjoyed working with my 2nd bereavement volunteer group at St. Mary's Hospice on Wednesday this week, introducing mindfulness to them. Roughly 20 volunteers have now had an introduction to mindfulness. And since my first visit in January, it's great to hear that mindfulness is starting to be used with some of the patients :) and that it's going very well. As I said back in January, St. Mary's is a lovely, warm and welcoming place with a lovely group of people working there. I hope to be asked back again soon.

The first edition of the Blue Sky Mind Newsletter was sent out to over 70 subscribers at the beginning of this week. We hope that this will be a place where people who are interested in Mindfulness can find out about the groups we run and particular events that might be happening. We also hope that people might like to contribute their own experiences of mindfulness or useful snippets of information that they might have gleaned from elsewhere.
This edition included details of our up-coming Mindfulness Day Retreat taking place in the Cotswolds in May. If you'd like to receive this newsletter, please fill in the details that can be found on my home page. A real privilege to be asked to talk about mindfulness at the Mental Health Awareness Day in Hall Green today. Some truly inspirational speakers and a fabulous audience of around 50 people. The change of the sound in the room when we started the brief meditation, and as everyone became still and quiet was amazing. Thank you everyone and thank you Mariyha for organising such a great event!
I was lucky enough to spend today at The Holistic Practice, Sutton Coldfield.
I was taking part in their charity training day, the charity being Yvonne's 5 Minute Angels which was set up in memory of Yvonne Barraclough. At its root is the simple premise that all it might take to change someone's day for the better is just 5 minutes of your time - talking, listening, helping in whatever way you can. You can find out much more by visiting http://fiveminuteangels.org/ The Mindfulness Now Teacher Training course was again held at the MAC, Birmingham this week. I really do love being one of the trainers on this course and always come away feeling really positive. All the students are always so lovely and the discussions that are had are always really interesting. It's brilliant that so many people are becoming interested in mindfulness for all sorts of personal and professional reasons and the course continues to have an almost permanent waiting list. It's great that so many people come from all over the country and are choosing to take mindfulness back out to the four corners of the UK. In fact, Mindfulness Now will soon be hitting Europe as one person came all the way from Italy!
I look forward to the next training week in April. This week I felt very privileged to have been asked to be involved in helping to train bereavement volunteers at St. Mary's Hospice in Selly Oak, Birmingham. So on Tuesday evening I spoke about the history of Mindfulness, what it can be used for and how, and led some formal mindfulness meditations too. I really enjoyed working with them for the evening and look forward to establishing further connections with them again very soon. St. Mary's Hospice is a lovely, friendly and welcoming place and everyone does such sterling work for such a worthy cause.
Very excited to have been asked to be part of the Anxiety Detox Team in 2016! Please look in on the website to find out more information on one day workshops in Birmingham and 5 day retreats in Somerset.
Looking forward to meeting new people on Nick Cooke's Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Training module next week.
I'll be leading sessions which will involve sharing my experiences of working with children and I'll also be talking about what I call 'extreme mindfulness' - meditations which last for a matter of minutes to one which can last upto three quarters of an hour or so. Always good to look forward to :) An interesting and varied week again last week including seeing hypnotherapy clients, and work based around mindfulness.
I really do love the discussions that take place in our mindfulness groups at Central England College and, as numbers increase, the discussions seem to become more and more thought-provoking. People come from all walks of life and with varying experiences of mindfulness already - some are already seasoned mindfulness practitioners whereas others may never have experienced anything like secular meditation for stress reduction before. It's all good! And all are welcome. Please book via 0121 444 1110 as places are limited. And see the Blue Sky Mind website for more information: blueskymind.org.uk And it was great getting such positive feedback from the sessions I led on the Mindfulness Now Teacher Training module at the Midlands Art Centre. Again, some really interesting discussions were had and many questions raised (and hopefully answered)! If you've ever thought about becoming a mindfulness teacher do look in on the website for further information: mindfulnessnow.org.uk Really enjoyed working alongside students at Central England College yesterday and today. A lovely group of people at a lovely venue.
